Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Access to Justice Conversation (pt 1)

Scales of Justice set against a rainbow of handprints
September 30, 2025
6:30 pm - 7:45 pm
Drinko Hall room 130 (Saxbe Auditorium)

If you've ever heard the phrase "food desert" in reference to communities which lack reliable access to quality and affordable food options, the same is true of "legal deserts" where communities in Ohio (and around the country) lack reliable, affordable access to legal representation.

Fortunately there are resources right here in Columbus working to combat this problem.  Join a panel of experts and practitioners as we discuss the issue and how Ohio State students can get involved:

  • Angie Lloyd is the Executive Director of Ohio Access to Justice Foundation which ensures that Ohioans who are low-income or who lack access can fully and fairly participate in civil systems that produce just outcomes.
  • Dianna Parker is Director of Pro Bono & Community Engagement at Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO) which provides civil legal aid and advocacy to overcome unfairness and injustice to reduce poverty and increase opportunity.
  • Amy Milam is Rural & General Practice Counsel for the Ohio State Bar Association, the state's largest legal network, representing attorneys, judges, legal professionals and law students, which is committed to promoting justice and advancing the legal profession.

This session is open to all Ohio State students and alumni, all years, all majors.  Bring your questions!

Pre-registration via Handshake is recommended (though not required).

This event is in partnership with Access to Justice Ohio, Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO), The Ohio Bar Association (OBA), and several student organizations including PAD, UBLSA, and Civil Alliance.
